Jose Mourinho Begins Mission to Reshape Real Madrid Culture

Jose Mourinho has officially begun his second tenure as the head coach of Real Madrid, describing his appointment as a "mission" to redefine the club's internal culture. The 63-year-old Portuguese manager was present at the training ground on Friday to oversee preparations for the upcoming pre-season, following his formal appointment in June as the successor to Alvaro Arbeloa.

Mourinho’s return comes at a pivotal time for the club, which has failed to secure a major trophy over the last two seasons. His arrival is widely perceived as an effort by club president Florentino Perez to impose order and discipline within a dressing room that has struggled with internal issues. During the previous campaign, the squad faced significant challenges with managing high-profile egos, including the departure of coach Xabi Alonso in January and a physical altercation between midfielders Aurelien Tchouameni and Fede Valverde in May, which resulted in hospital treatment for the latter. Furthermore, both Alonso and Arbeloa struggled to integrate star players Kylian Mbappe, Jude Bellingham, and Vinicius Junior into a cohesive, balanced tactical setup.

Addressing his objectives, Mourinho spoke to Real Madrid TV, emphasizing that his primary focus is not on personal accolades but on fostering a collective environment of responsibility and ambition. He stated that he is there to assist the entire staff and playing squad in becoming better, stressing that the task goes beyond typical coaching duties. "It's not about working at Real Madrid, it's working for Real Madrid," Mourinho said, highlighting the honor and responsibility required for the role.

During his previous spell at the club between 2010 and 2013, Mourinho was instrumental in challenging the dominance of Pep Guardiola's Barcelona, famously cultivating a intense, siege-like mentality. As he begins this new chapter, the club has already bolstered its roster with the signings of Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Denzel Dumfries, and Ibrahima Konate.
