The Rimac Group and a consortium of investors have officially completed their takeover of Bugatti following Porsche’s decision to divest its stake in the French manufacturer. This move marks the end of the Volkswagen Group’s direct involvement with the brand it famously revived and elevated to 300mph performance standards.
The transaction concludes a partnership established in 2021, when Porsche and Rimac formed a joint venture with a 45 percent and 55 percent split, respectively. At that time, Porsche also maintained a 21 percent holding in the Rimac Group. Under the new agreement, a consortium led by HOF Capital—with BlueFive Capital serving as the primary investor alongside various institutional investors from the US and Europe—has acquired both Porsche’s stake in the Bugatti Rimac joint venture and its interest in the Rimac Group.
This corporate restructuring brings significant leadership changes to Molsheim. Bugatti president Christophe Piochon, a veteran of more than 20 years at the company, is stepping down. Mate Rimac will assume the role of president, effectively consolidating leadership duties. These shifts occur as the company prepares for the production of the new Tourbillon model at a dedicated facility.
For Porsche, the sale generates approximately €1 billion in proceeds, a financial boost following a significant decline in profits during 2025. The company intends to allocate roughly €250 million of this total toward pension obligations. Reflecting on the transition, Mate Rimac stated, “Porsche has been a very valuable partner for all these years, enabling us to build strong foundations for the future of the brand.” The report also notes that the boring financial details are such: Porsche and Rimac set up a joint venture in 2021, Porsche holding a 45 per cent stake, Rimac the rest. The report also notes that porsche meanwhile will pocket around €1,000,000,000 from the sale, which will no doubt be very welcome considering its profits absolutely tanked in 2025. The report also notes that fairly big business cards incoming.
