Prime Minister Tarek Rahman stated that the government is actively implementing realistic plans to make vital sectors, including education, health, and energy, self-sufficient and self-reliant. Speaking at a physician's rally marking the 37th anniversary of the Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB) held at the LD Hall of the National Parliament Building on Saturday, August 8, the Prime Minister emphasized that the current administration is making every effort to protect the country and its citizens from crises caused by past unplanned decisions.
Addressing the energy situation, Tarek Rahman acknowledged that the public is currently facing significant challenges regarding electricity, gas, and fuel. He explained that the country is grappling with the consequences of previous initiatives that favored specific institutions at the expense of the nation. He noted that the government inherited a fragile state, but work is already underway to gradually guide the people out of these shortages through carefully considered planning.
During the event, the Prime Minister highlighted the government's commitment to public health, advocating for the principle that "prevention is better than cure." To support this, he announced plans to recruit an additional 100,000 health workers who will focus on educating citizens about primary healthcare and disease prevention. He stressed that physicians must take the lead in ensuring these workers are properly trained.
Tarek Rahman also spoke on the role of political awareness among students and professionals. He remarked that, in a democratic state where political decisions influence almost every aspect of life, it is not unreasonable for citizens to remain politically organized or aware according to their own ideologies. He further presented several proposals aimed at making the nation’s healthcare system more effective and user-friendly.
Before the formal proceedings, the Prime Minister and his wife, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, planted Neem and Arjun saplings at the venue. The rally, presided over by DAB President Professor Dr. Harun Al Rashid, featured speeches from BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Dr. Zubaida Rahman, Social Welfare Minister Professor Dr. A.Z.M. Zahid Hossain, Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain, and DAB Secretary General Dr. Md. Zohirul Islam Shakil.
