Manchester United has informed Atalanta that they are withdrawing from the proposed €45 million transfer for midfielder Ederson. The agreement, which was originally reached in June, was structured around a guaranteed fee of €40.5 million supplemented by an additional €4.5 million in performance-related bonuses. This follows a period where Ederson was seen in Bergamo on January 25, 2026, during a match against Parma Calcio 1913.
The finalization of the deal had been delayed while the player represented the Brazil squad at the 2026 World Cup. Following Brazil’s elimination from the tournament, Manchester United requested that the midfielder undergo a series of intensive medical assessments to ensure his fitness before officially completing the transfer. Ederson had his first Manchester United extra medical today, with a final decision set for July 10. These examinations were conducted over the final 48 hours, ultimately leading the Premier League club to decide against proceeding with the acquisition.
Atalanta, known as La Dea, has expressed disagreement with the decision, maintaining that if the player had been suffering from a serious injury, he would not have been selected for the Brazil squad during the World Cup. With Ederson’s current contract at the Bergamo-based club running until June 2028, his future remains uncertain. It is currently unclear whether the player will be sold to another club or integrated into the squad under the management of new head coach Maurizio Sarri.
